10 Rock-Star Color Palettes You Can Steal

Choose the Right Color Palette for Your Brand

Ahhh, color. One of my favorite things to play with as a brand designer! But this creative asset can be somewhat distracting and cumbersome to the decision-making process if you’re not comfortable with the choices. Let’s first talk just a little about how to choose color palettes and then we’ll dive into the proverbial color sea!

While not a full discussion of color theory, it’s important to mention that there are some things to consider when choosing color palettes. Choosing the right color for your brand or creative project isn’t just about picking the colors you like best. It’s important to remember that color is another crucial element to communicate your message, so you’ll want to be sure your choices will connect with your audience. When selecting colors, keep in mind both cultural and modern references as this can help secure a valuable audience connection or, at its worst, cause confusion and distaste.

Ok, let’s start with color pairing! Matching colors together is a skill and one that, if practiced, can award a brand notability and exposure within its own industry as well as across the globe. And don’t forget to check out the Resources at the end of this post for great sites that will help you build your brand palette!

How to Pair Colors
Start your color palette off simply – using just 2 colors. These are your primary colors and will end up being the main colors you use across your brand. Once these colors are set into place, finding complimentary colors that work well with the 2 primaries is key to creating a synergy within your palette.

Finding the Synergy
Once you have your 2 primaries locked in, use a color palette creator, such as Coolors https://coolors.co, to find your secondary colors and/or full color palette. Keep in mind that less is usually more, so try and stay a bit reserved when creating your full palette. Sticking with 4-5 colors will probably suffice most needs.

Onto the Palettes!
Here are a few samples of color palettes that can either be a launching point for your own creation, or feel free to take what’s here and adopt as your own! The hex (web code) color codes for each color are listed in the palette, and can be used for your own marketing materials.
